Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy is a type of treatment that provides people with the opportunity to talk about their experiences, feelings, and emotions in a safe and confidential setting. The therapeutic relationship is the foundation of successful therapy.  It is a relationship based on trust, unconditional acceptance, and respect between the therapist and the client.  Our therapists are trained in many different modalities and tailor their approach to fit each client’s individual needs.

Your first therapy session should be a chance to get to know your therapist and discuss any issues you’d like to work on. During the session, the therapist will ask questions to get to know you better and to understand your goals for therapy. Your therapist may also explain their approach, answer any questions you have, and discuss the treatment plan. It's important to be open and honest with your therapist. If, for any reason, you and/or your therapist don't believe that working together is the best fit for you, we’d be happy to provide you with referrals based on your needs.

The main difference between talking to a therapist and a friend is that, while a friend may offer comfort and support, a therapist is a trained professional who provides an objective perspective and specialized strategies to address your concerns. Additionally, therapy is completely confidential so you may feel more free discussing topics you would choose not to share with friends or family.

The length of a session is approximately 55 minutes.

Yes, we do offer telehealth services. Please contact our office for more information.

Yes.  You can choose if you would like to utilize your insurance benefits for counseling or if you would like to pay for services out-of-pocket. If you decide to access insurance benefits, we will submit all claims (in-network or out-of-network). Clients are responsible for any copays and deductibles. We also accept HSA/FSA payments. Contact our office for more information regarding specific insurance plans we accept.

Medication can provide support, but without underlying therapeutic work, the cause of the problem may not be adequately addressed. Therapy, on the other hand, can help to identify the root cause of mental health issues and provide strategies to cope with them.  As therapists, we do not prescribe medication.  However, we are happy to collaborate with a medical professional who provides these services.
